Dear all,

Greetings,

I do hope you are taking time off to go camping this winter! This is a very busy season for us and we still have some availability, so if you are thinking of doing a tour on the Canning Stock Route, this is your last chance!

With all the rains over the region, the scenery should be pretty spectacular; green grass, flowers, wildlife in abundance…!

We are still waiting for news from the Aboriginal council regarding the Calvert range. These things do take a long time. The permit system is officially in place but we are still unclear of who is going to administer it. As soon as we have news we will let you know. Your support is very valuable, thank you, and keep sending your comments.

Until next time,
Eric Chantelat, managing director.

EnlargeMozzie Dome ™, Screen shelter, Dome II.
This is the double dome tent but used for one. The perfect way to enjoy sleeping in the open without worrying about creepy crawlies!! It comes with a fly (extra cost) in case of rain. That way you get to see the stars and stay protected. We use a swag with mattress. It is very easy to put together and folds in the minimum space. There is one zip on each side of the tent. We put a tarpaulin under for extra protection against rocks. The dome shape gives you enough space to sit up and put on your clothes. Also wide enough to put your bag and shoes inside.

Any good camping shop should stock it, we buy them at Camper Ranger.

I recently got back from the Great Victoria Desert and thought I’d share with you this latest adventure.
There was one passenger in my car and two people following in their own vehicle, a sort of mini tag-along. We left Perth and drove to Kalgoorlie to spend our first night. This makes an easy drive for the first day and we can all relax in front of a beer and a good meal at one the multiple restaurants “Kal” has to offer. Kalgoorlie is a great place to visit; it is, I believe, a “must have” experience. The city that never sleeps offers plenty of great restaurants and fine food. Even though we arrived on Good Friday we still managed to find a very lively and welcoming place to have wood oven pizza and a beer! We stayed at the Palace hotel, which was built just one hundred years ago, yes it is its hundredth birthday!. This hotel has great character and the rooms are exceptionally well presented and maintained, with very reasonable rates. The restaurant on the balcony has superb fine food and offers a great view over the lively streets of the town. Continue...

CSR "HAVE YOUR SAY"!

The Canning Stock Route is under new management. The new permit system is theoretically starting today (1st May) but no official news are available. We are waiting to hear from the Ngaanyatjarra council. We are investigating different possibilities for allowing access to travellers to the Calvert range while the study is in progress. We appreciate your support and comments. All have been posted on the site.

We welcome suggestions and ideas on the subject. This will help supporting our proposal to the council when ready.

The response on the subject has been very positive, all are in favour to respect and protect the sites. And all admit that access shouldn’t be restricted to tour operators only.
